چکیده

Between March 1989 and July 1990, 13 patients with tracheobronchial cancer were treated by laser hyperthermia at the National Cancer Center Hospital. A complete response was achieved in 9 patients (with 9 carcinoma lesions), with no evidence of local recurrence on follow-up ranging from 4 to 29 months. Four patients had a partial response, requiring alternative therapy. The surface area of the lesions showing complete response was less than 3 cm(2). These lesions had a superficial appearance by bronchoscopic observation. Our experience suggests that laser hyperthermia may be a useful alternative to surgical resection in patients with small localized tumors confined within the tracheobronchial wall.

Numerical study of thermal dynamics of gold nanoparticles in laser-induced hyperthermia therapy

Damage of the normal tissue is a serious concenrn in cancer treatment. Hyperthermia by laserhas been considered as a safe cancer treatments methods with lower harmful effects on normaltissues. Using nanoparticles in cancer treatment has improved laser therapy, which is based ona selective cell targeting method to localize cell damages. Metallic nanoparticles such as gold, silver, and copper have...

MR-guided laser-induced thermotherapy (LITT) of liver tumours: experimental and clinical data.

MR-guided laser-induced interstitial thermotherapy (LITT) is a percutaneous, minimally invasive treatment modality for treating liver lesions/metastases, soft tissue tumours and musculoskeletal lesions. In this group, MR-guided LITT is currently performed under local anaesthesia on an out-patient basis with a specially designed saline-cooled laser application system. Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm wave ...

Bronchoscopic long-term palliation of a recurrent atypical carcinoid tumor.

Bronchial carcinoid tumors account for 1-2% of all primary lung tumors and are separated into 2 subgroups: typical and atypical carcinoids. Atypical carcinoids as intermediate-grade malignancies can metastasize more frequently, thus exhibiting poorer prognosis than the low-grade typical carcinoid tumors. Surgical resection remains the mainstay of treatment for pulmonary carcinoids. Bronchoscopi...

Preliminary Results of Treating Cancerous Cells of Lung (QU-DB) by Hyperthermia using Diode Laser and Gold Coated Fe3O4/SiO2 Nano-Shells: An in-Vitro Assay

Introduction In this study, we describe the results of controlled synthesis and application of gold coated Fe3O4/SiO2 nano-shells combined with the optical property of gold for enhancement of selective photothermal interaction with cancerous cells based on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) Phenomena. Materials and Methods Magnetite Nano-Particles (MNPs) were prepared by means of co-precipitat...

Bronchoscopic diathermy resection and stent insertion: a cost effective treatment for tracheobronchial obstruction.

BACKGROUND Major airways obstruction is a distressing cause of morbidity and mortality. For disease that is extensive and recurrent, there is a need for a safe and cost effective technique for palliation. METHODS The results of 29 patients with tracheobronchial obstruction (24 malignant and five benign) treated by diathermy resection alone or in combination with endobronchial stenting have be...
